I kept asking the other guys to give me things they liked for this page but they usually forgot. This page is pretty much just “stuff Mac likes” with a few exceptions.
Books:
Scott Pilgrim: My favorite graphic novel of all time.
Any book by Hunter S. Thompson: This guy was an unhinged maniac and quite possibly the greatest writer ever. Blended fiction and journalism to create “Gonzo Journalism”. Ask your father about him.
Challenger Deep: A book about a teenager’s experience with schizophrenia, based off of the author’s own son. Angus’s favorite book.
Music:
We’re all music junkies and this section does not do any of our tastes justice, you’re better off asking us to send you a playlist.
Mass Teen Fainting: Plumtree is my personal favorite all-girl band. The best part about liking this album is that it’s only known by Canadians, so it makes a great talking point at parties.
Doolittle: My personal favorite rock album, Black Francis turns screaming into high level art.
Pure Heroine: Lorde made one of the best pop albums of all time when she was fifteen. Fifteen! When I was fifteen, I showered once a week and couldn’t ride a bike. It really isn’t fair.
Nebraska: A classic Bruce Springsteen album that dipped into the country genre. I don’t have to tell you who likes this.
Breakence: Described as a mixture of “Midwest emo and emo rap.” I think I just puked in my mouth writing that, but Angus really likes this guy so onto the list it goes.
American Football: The best album ever made. Mike Kinsella is a genius.
Movies:
Drive: Ryan Gosling gets in cahoots with the wife of an ex-con. He also doesn’t talk at all.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle: Probably the best comedy of the 2000s. Not to be watched sober.
Moneyball: Every baseball fan should watch this one.
Brokeback Mountain: We all saw this movie about straight cowboys who love their wives and cried. Heath Ledger can barely form a coherent sentence, but he should have won best actor for this movie.
Casino: also known as “Goodfellas 2”. It’s Ben’s favorite movie(?)
Airplane: an absolute comedic classic, but you can’t repeat any of the jokes in current year so you will have to just tell people that it’s hilarious.
Blade Runner 2049: I never watched the first one, but this is one of my favorite movies in terms of pure style.
Taxi Driver: This is like Jay’s favorite movie ever, I really liked it too although Robert De Niro is absolutely to blame for the “literally me” trend in movies (which I love anyways so whatever)
Pulp Fiction: Responsible for way more of modern culture than I thought. John Travolta rocks.
TV Shows:
Nathan for You: This geeky Canadian guy screws with a bunch of hapless business owners and has them do some funny promotions. They rarely work.
Clone High: The first season was the last vestige of actually good adult animation before everything became unfunny and terrible. The new seasons suck.
The Sopranos: Italian mobster drama. It’s actually really funny if you have a sick sense of humor like we do. Accurately depicts New Jersey as terrible.
The Boondocks: The only “social commentary” show that didn’t make me want to bash my head through the TV after watching.
Video Games:
Persona 5 Royal: I spent over 650 hours in this game about Japanese teenagers so it’s probably good.
No More Heroes: Some loser buys a lightsaber on EBay and becomes the world’s best assassin. The main character is my personal Lisan al-Gaib.
Hotline Miami: John Wick: the video game. Very hard. Gorgeous, washed-out visuals. I’m playing the sequel now.
Team Fortress 2: My all-time favorite first person shooter. Also responsible for a lot of funny jokes on the internet these days.
Minecraft: Angus has some absurd amount of hours in this game. Last I asked he was at like 3,000. I can’t tell if that’s really cool or horrifying.
Red Dead Redemption: Basically a cowboy simulator where you pillage towns and fight other cowboys. The only thing that could make it more Jay-esque would be a Bob Dylan cameo.
Grand Theft Auto: The developers are finally making a 6th GTA game after like 10 years of sitting on their hands collecting money from idiots like me.
VA-11 Hall-A: It’s a visual novel, so even your grandma can play it.
Balatro: Got Ben and Angus addicted spring semester of our sophomore year. A poker roguelike(?) if you like that sort of thing.
Splatoon: I used to be addicted to this game back in the day, it’s lost its luster for me nowadays but it was my first shooter ever so I hold it in high regard.
Anime:
ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! – Mac
